Rob achieves his unusual surface by using medium in between each layer of paint. He uses many layers and a lot of glazes to achieve his surfaces. Rob puts the red airplane in each painting because when he goes backpacking, he never fails to see a plane in the sky, no matter how remote the area—his own quirky form of expression, or frustration.
